The Buildings at Buncom
There are three buildings
remaining at Buncom -- the Post Office, the Bunkhouse and the Cookhouse.
The Post Office building is the youngest, constructed about 1910. It also
doubled as a General Store.
Post Office
The roofs on all three buildings were replaced by the Buncom Historical Society in the
1990s, and significant work was done on support beams inside. New footings were placed
underneath to stabilize them.
Bunkhouse
In 2001, thanks to the generosity of two Society members, the floor of the Cookhouse was
replaced with a floor of locally milled wood. And thanks to another contribution, windows
were added as the building had them originally. It's now nicknamed the “Buncom Dance
Hall.”
Cookhouse
In 2002, the overhang on the Cookhouse was replaced, and the porch that had graced the
Post Office until it collapsed about 40 years earlier was restored.
